En's buddy

To help the P. 1 girls ease into primary school, MGS assigns a P.5 girl to each P.1 girl as a buddy. For the first two weeks of school, the buddy comes to the girls' class at recess time and will accompany them for the duration of the 30 min recess time. We met En's buddy,Kate, on the first day of school.

Since then, she's been coming home everyday and telling me about what she did with Kate that day, or some nugget of information she learnt from Kate. For instance, why is it that the buddy is a P. 5 girl & not a P.6 girl? Oh Kate says its because the P.6 girls have to take an important examination called the PSLE! Another thing she's been talking about every day is what she should give to Kate on the last day of the buddy program. So last night, we selected a gift for Kate, wrapped it up & wrote her a card. Today was the last day with Kate & when she came home, she proudly showed me the nicely wrapped gift that Kate had given her,together with this sweet card.

This gift giving & card making is really such a girl thing. I wonder if any of my friends with sons had your boys asking to make a card or give a gift to their buddies? Anyhow, I'm very thankful for the kind buddy that En had & she's already talking about how she will miss Kate on Monday!
