We marked the end of En's first week in school with sickness. She came home this afternoon very tired and teary. She told me that she started feeling sick during Chinese lesson at school after recess, but her teacher took her temperature and she was fine. But her head had been hurting, and she had tried to sleep on the bus, unusual, because for the last few days, she would get off the school bus in high spirits, telling me what a great time she'd had playing on the bus, and about the people she was talking to. I thought that perhaps, it was just a case of not having enough sleep as she had her golf lesson the previous night till 9ish and hadn't slept till close to 10. But after a shower and a snack, she was still feeling poorly, and I think she's come down with the same throat infection that kept Wen at home today.
But otherwise, En is enjoying school very much although she cannot tell me the names of most of her teachers, she doesn't have any homework, and she'd rather save her pocket money than spend it. Also, at the end of Day 2, having endured a day of her hair being tied up (and me having had to tie the hair early in the morning), we came to a consensus that she should cut her hair and keep it short for the time being. So she's back to having a nice short bob that Mrs Tay Poh Imm would approve of. No pictures, alas. This week, we also managed to find another couple living in Tampines who's daughter goes to MGS to car pool with us. Thursday was the first day we tried carpooling and today was our turn. This is a great burden off both the families, as it halves our travel to MGS in the mornings! Hurray! Thank God for this provision! This week, En also came back with her first 听写sheet for the next few weeks and I was rather surprised to see that the kids are actually going to be tested on the hanyu pinyin rather than the 汉字. Purists like my mother-in-law really object to this, while I have heard others praise this system. We shall see how that works. Meantime, we're all very glad that we've come to the end of the school week because we get to sleep in tomorrow! I've been sleeping so badly this whole week cos I'm stressed that we'll oversleep and be late for school and I have these vivid dreams that cause me to sit up in bed and talk. Also, I have been waking up while it's still dark outside every day, amazing for me! Hurray for the weekend & I hope my poor En gets better soon so she can enjoy it!
