Getting into the Chinese New Year spirit!

It all started this morning because I had to go queue for the famous Lim Chee Guan bak kwa at Ion Orchard, not for my personal consumption but for work since my job as a Protocol officer involves getting gifts for our partners. Since I knew the queue was going to be long, I called Linda & asked her to join me. We got there at 9.30am (the shop was due to open at 10) and there were already about 15 people in the line. By the time they started serving customers around 1005, there were at least another 30 people in the line behind me!

At around 1040am, it was finally our turn. Each person is only allowed to buy 5 kg of the pork bak kwa, and as much of anything else you want. The both of us maxed out our allowance!

I managed to get off work on time and as I was driving out from my office, I decided to stop by at Far East Flora to buy some flowers for CNY to give a festive touch to our home. This is one of my resolutions for the year, to decorate my home for each major festival and holidays that matter to us. This was something my friends in the US would do, changing their deco with the passing seasons and holidays & that is what I'm aspiring to do!

At Far East Flora, which is a wholesale shop, I had a fun half hour in the cold rooms looking at the different plants and flowers and in the end, I got a bunch of eucalyptus and some Solanum Integriflorium, otherwise known as Pumpkin on a stick.

The kids were very excited to be doing this centerpiece arrangement with me! This is the first time we have tried doing something like this.

This was a very simple arrangement that's very appropriate for CNY! And now the house smells of eucalyptus too which I love! No need for water as these all dry out nicely & can last very long.

I also bought this small "good luck plant" at Far East Flora.

En told me that she needed to bring some CNY decorations to school to decorate her classroom. So after she & Min fell asleep, Wen & I headed downstairs to our neighborhood CNY fair where there was a great range of decorations to choose from!

While buying stuff for En, we also got some decoration for our home as well.

We got these cloth cuttings of the kids' zodiac animals (rooster, dog & pig) for their room door as well as my favorite one of the Chinese word for Sping, 春, surrounded by all the animals in the Chinese zodiac calendar.

Now the house looks so nice & festive for my favorite holiday of the year!
